DescriptionPhotograph of Janis Joplin By Bob Seidemann (1967). Gelatin silver print, titled verso "Janis Joplin / 1967", signed, dated "4-22-99" and editioned 9/20 in pencil with the photographer's copyright stamp on verso. Measures 11" x 14" (paper size). In Excellent condition.
Bob Seidemann is known equally for his famous photographs of musicians and rock n' roll album covers as he is for his sprawling collection "The Airplane as Art". His controversial cover of Blind Faith brought the photographer instant notoriety a mere two years after he first ruffled feathers with his gender-swapped take on Michelangelo's Pieta in 1967. Distinguished photographer Bob Seidemann is a prolific, innovative artist, with work as imaginative and striking as it is contentious. Here Heritage Auctions is pleased to present six limited-edition prints of some of his most renowned work in the rock world, including a print of his iconic nude photo of Janis Joplin.
