KRNT Theater Grand Ole Opry Roadshow Photo and Autographed Memorabilia Group (1950s-60s)
The KRNT Theater in Des Moines, Iowa, was one of the largest theaters in the world when it was built, as the Za-Ga-Zig Shrine Temple Auditorium, in 1927. By the 1950s, this 4,200 seat venue was home to s series of Grand Ole Opry shows, promoted by Smokey Smith. Smith had a knack for filling the theater for three shows a day, featuring many of the biggest acts in Country Music. This massive box lot of photos and photo albums, Super 8 reels, signed 45 rpm records and more mostly date from the early 1960s, and includes photos of Johnny Cash, George Jones, Merle Haggard, Buck Owens, Bill Monroe, Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs,Johnny Horton, Hank Snow, Roy Acuff, Wanda Jackson, Grampa Jones, Roy Clark, Roger Miller, Bill Anderson, Leroy Van Dyke, Bonanza star Michael Landon, and many more than we have room to mention. A number of the snapshots have been autographed, mostly by lesser-known stars. Also included are eight 45 rpm records in sleeves, most of which have been signed (the best-known is Marty Robbins); a promo card for Johnny Horton (with printed autograph); a signed Carl and Pearl Butler song book; and four unused Bill Anderson tickets. COA from Heritage Auctions.
