Description

Jazz - Ninety Six Unpublished Color Stereoscopic Slides of Sugar Ray Robinson, Buddy Rich, Rudy Vallee and Others (1949-1963). All original glass slides, most with "Character Arts / Cleveland, Ohio" paper label with typed details of the artists, venue, and date, showing legendary Jazz figures - and one of the greatest boxing stars of all time - both on and off stage. Performers include: all-time boxing great Sugar Ray Robinson hanging around the Palms club in Columbus, Ohio in 1953 (x7); Buddy Rich with Tommy Turk, 1949 (1); Rudy Vallee, 1949 (1); Tony Spargo, 1949 (x5). Others featured: Bill Randall, Joe Sullivan, Eddie South, Noble Sissie, Floyd Bean, and many more. All slides measure approximately 4" x 1.75". Generally the slides are in Fine to Excellent condition, with some loss to trim on slides, and discoloration to labels. The actual images are in Excellent condition.

In order to appreciate the three dimensional qualities of these images we strongly encourage interested bidders to view this lot in person.

Provenance: From The Nat Singerman Jazz Archive. See "Antiques Roadshow", PBS, Episode #2005, Little Rock, 2015.
