Description

Jazz - Ninety Five Unpublished Color Stereoscopic Slides of Louis Armstrong, Cab Calloway, Billie Holiday and Others (1949-1964). All original glass slides, most with "Character Arts / Cleveland, Ohio" paper label with typed details of the artists, venue, and date, showing multiple Jazz legends on and off stage. Performers include: Louis Armstrong, one slide titled "Louie at Studio"; Cab Calloway, 1954 (1); Billie Holiday, 1952 (1); Gene Ammons, 1951 (x7); Frankie Carle, 1949 (x7); Tiny Bradshaw, 1952 (x3). Others featured: Baby Dodds, Joe Bushkin, Lovie Austin, Ernie Caceres, Sydney Bechet, Ray Razor, and many more. All slides measure approximately 4" x 1.75". Generally the slides are in Good to Excellent condition, with some loss to trim on slides, and discoloration to labels. The trim of three to four slides in this lot has deteriorated to the point of falling apart. The actual images are in Excellent condition.

In order to appreciate the three dimensional qualities of these images we strongly encourage interested bidders to view this lot in person.

Provenance: From The Nat Singerman Jazz Archive. See "Antiques Roadshow", PBS, Episode #2005, Little Rock, 2015.
