George Harrison - Original Vintage Photograph of Him Modeling the First Beatles Leather Jacket At The Bambi-Kino (Hamburg,1960). The incredible transformation which took place within the Beatles during their first visit to Hamburg manifested itself not just in their music, but also their visual style - having arrived in Hamburg with limited playing abilities and with matching lavender sportcoats for stage outfits, they returned to Liverpool as seasoned rockers clad in black leather. Upon arrival in Hamburg they were housed in two cramped storage rooms in the back of a movie theatre known as the Bambi-Kino, which was operated by the club-owner who brought them to Hamburg.

This striking, vintage snapshot of George Harrison proudly modeling his first leather jacket - purchased from a waiter in Hamburg - is one of only a few photographs known to have been taken of group members at the Bambi-Kino. It is also quite possibly the first-ever photo taken of a Beatle clad in black leather and captures an extraordinary transformative moment - in both time and place - in the lives of the most important musical force of the 20th Century. Taken by an unknown photographer, and measuring approximately 3.5" x 3.5", the photo is in Very Good vintage condition, with some slight creases throughout, and small spots on the top, left, and right borders. Several notations are on the verso in pencil, blue ink, and green marker, possibly from publication usage. This may be the only vintage print of this image in existence.

Despite being the youngest member of the group - only 17 in this photo - George was often the first to adopt new fashion styles, and he was the first Beatle to "go leather" in Hamburg. John and Pete Best adopted the look next, as seen in the famous group photos taken by Astrid Kirchherr. Within weeks of this photo being taken, George would be deported from Germany for being underage. From the Uwe Blaschke Beatles Collection.
