Description

Beatles - Postcard Autographed by Johnny Kidd & The Pirates (Germany, 1965) with an Undated Vintage Photograph. Johnny Kidd & The Pirates were one of the most influential of the early English rock groups, leaving an imprint on not just the Beatles, but also The Who, and even Led Zeppelin, those groups both adopting the guitar-bass-drums-vocalist lineup and R&B stylings which the early Pirates pioneered. The Beatles Hamburg repertoire included Kidd's 1960 hit, "Shakin' All Over." This postcard would have been signed by the group in January 1965, when Barry Hammett of the Primitives became a short-term Pirate for a tour that took them to Hamburg and other German cities. The strict age limit laws which saw George Harrison deported from Hamburg in 1960 were still in effect, and full-time Pirate John Weider, only 17, could not be in nightclubs after 10 pm! Measuring 6" x 4" and in Very Good condition with some tack holes in the corners, and with an image of Bremen on the front, signed in red ink by Johnny Kidd, Vic Cooper, Frank Farley, Johnny Spence, and Hammett. The undated 7" x 9.5" photograph is likely an older printing, with imperfections in the image from scratches on the negative, but in Very Good condition, with no creases, dings, or tears. From the Uwe Blaschke Beatles Collection. COA from Heritage Auctions.
