Beatles - John and Cynthia Lennon Rare Vintage Photograph By Robert Whitaker, 1965 Robert Whitaker began his association with the Beatles in 1964 when the group made tour stops in Australia. Working as a freelance photographer in Melbourne, he was commissioned to photograph Brian Epstein for a newspaper profile being written about the Beatles' manager. Epstein was so impressed with Whitaker's work that he offered him a job as staff photographer for NEMS. Relocating to England, Whitaker spent much of the next two years in the company of the Beatles, and photographed them extensively, both in public and private.

This incredibly rare large format photograph titled "Narcissus" is the only known vintage print of this image in this size, according to Whitaker's studio. It includes a photocopied note from Whitaker attesting to the print being made at the time of the negative, 1965. Whitaker was quoted as saying "I had been studying the Greek myth of Narcissus...and I got John to to look at his reflection in the water." Interestingly, the photo was taken at the Lennon's Weybridge home on the same day that Whitaker took the famous color image of John with a dandelion on his eye, which has the profound distinction of being included in the collection of London's National Portrait Gallery. Commenting on it, Whitaker acknowledged its inspiration as also being a meditation on Narcissus and a remembered quote from 'Euripides referring to flowers in people's eyes.'

The photo is currently framed, the image measuring approximately 19.5" x 15.25" under the matte. There is a slight crease measuring 2" at bottom left, but in overall Very Good Plus condition, its tone consistent with age. The black wooden frame measures 31.5" x 27".
