Beatles Group of 1961 Hamburg Photos by Jurgen Vollmer with Signed Note from the Photographer. Ten 8" x 10" B&W photos, nine of which taken by Vollmer in 1961; the other is an early group pose from 1962. Vollmer tells the story in a printed sheet that accompanied the images, ordered directly from him: "In 1961 the Beatles played several months in the Top Ten Club in Hamburg, Germany. I went to see them almost every night. At the time I was a student of photography, and I was attracted by their fantastic looks (besides, of course, their great sound). I got very friendly with them, and one afternoon, when the club was empty, we arranged a photosession..." This sheet is signed by him: "Thank you for your letter & order! Jurgen" and the original shipping envelope also included. The photos show John, Paul, George, and Stu on and off-stage. It's interesting to note the guitars they were playing at the time- John's pre-black paint Rickenbacker 325 Casino, Paul's Rosetti Solid 7, and George's Resonet Grazioso Futurama. The famous doorway photo that John would later use for his Rock 'n' Roll album is included. All are in excellent condition.
Vollmer was a key figure in the Beatles' careers. Paul McCartney once said of him: "Meeting J├╝rgen Vollmer was a very important event in my life and the lives of the other Beatles. His sense of style and excellent photographic skills were to have a profound effect throughout our careers." From the Joe Pope Archive.
