Parliaments with George Clinton, Soul Survivors 1967 "Hot Record Artists" Concert Poster. An original cardboard window card advertising some "HOT Record Artists of 1967" in an unusual Thanksgiving-themed concert poster adorned with pumpkins and turkeys. This was for eight nights' worth of shows commencing on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 23, 1967 at the famed Regal Theatre in Chicago, IL.

The big future star on this poster was George Clinton of the Parliaments, who had a #3 R&B hit that summer with "(I Wanna) Testify." But that was just the beginning. Statistically, that was the first charting single out of 46 that Parliament/Funkadelic would end up charting into the 1980's. But Clinton's highly influential and prolific funk aggregation - sometimes featuring over 30 musicians - would help shape the musical genre of funk for generations to come.

This was the year, 1967, when Clinton relocated his troupe from New Jersey to Detroit and added a rhythm section. Voila, instant chart success. Over the years, Parliament was responsible for spin-off successes from the likes of Maceo Parker, Bootsy Collins and the P-Funk All-Stars. As a result, Clinton was eventually inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and given a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.

Other musicians advertised on this board included the Soul Survivors, whose "Expressway (To Your Heart)" had been a Top 5 pop hit that summer; The Fantastic Johnny "C," whose "Boogaloo Down Broadway" was a current Top 10 pop hit; J.J. Barnes, who went Top 10 R&B this spring with "Baby Please Come Back Home"; and several more musicians, including The Dells who were an institution.

Measures 22" x 28" and grades to Near MInt condition with only some very light bumping to the upper left edge, a surface crease above "SCR" at the very bottom, some smudging on the bottom edge (a printer's anomaly) and toning around the edges on the verso. COA from Heritage Auctions.
