Van Morrison/Clear Light Try-Out Poster Original Art by Randy Tuten (c. 1968). Raised in Los Angeles, artist Randy Tuten began hitchhiking between L.A. and San Francisco to catch concerts at the Fillmore Auditorium and Avalon Ballroom in 1966. There, he was knocked out by the psychedelic posters created to advertise the shows, and he promptly moved to the Bay Area with the intent of becoming a poster artist. He began submitting samples to Chet Helm of the Family Dog, but after months of rejections, he took his portfolio to Bill Graham, who hired him as an in-house artist in early 1969. This is one of Randy's try-out pieces for Chet, for a faux Family Dog show starring L.A. band Clear Light with Van Morrison. The art is in ink on illustration board with a small pasted-on lettering correction, and is in Very Good Minus condition, with a few stains and slightly bent corners. Measures approximately 14" x 18" with a signature in the lower left. A very curious but rare piece of the history of the San Francisco psychedelic music and art scene of the late 1960s!Auction Info
