Description
John Lennon "Strong" Original LSD 1967 Artwork On Hotel Continental Paris Stationery in a Framed Display (circa 1967). When you talk about Beatle artwork it is hard to fathom not mentioning the infamous "Strong" colorful felt pen work of art. John and George were originally introduced to LSD without their knowledge by dentist John Riley. He supposedly slipped it onto their coffee at a dinner party March of 1965. From that moment on music, fashion, artwork and lyrics would never be the same. This dramatically cool piece was at one point from the collection of Yannis Alexis Mardas (Magic Alex). He was the former head of Apple electronics. He first came in contact with the psychedelic style sketch when John Lennon was visiting him in Greece.Lennon's own quote: "It was terrifying, but fantastic. I did some drawings at the time of taking LSD I've got them somewhere - of four faces.... I gave them to Ringo, I've lost the originals. I did a lot of drawing that night... I must have had a thousand trips". The drawing features many felt pens on letter head stationery from the "Hotel Continental, Paris". Measuring in mat approx: 7" by 9". Framed to approx: 12 3/4" by 15". This eye catching work includes many figures and abstract drawings all nicely incorporated to create a stunning graphic that is pure to the faithful. The word "Strong" placed near the center. This one of a kind example checks all the boxes and demonstrates once again that Mr. Lennon was on the cutting edge. Previously sold through Christie's in 2004. In overall Excellent condition. Add this absolutely incomparable piece of Beatles history to the collection. COA from Heritage Auctions.
