John Lennon Signed "Bed Peace" Lithograph (1969-1970).
A limited-edition litho of John Lennon and Yoko Ono's "Bed Peace" press conference, signed in pencil in 1969 by Lennon in the lower right. Printed on high-quality BFK Rives ("reeves") paper, complete with authentic watermark in bottom center, by Cinnamon Press, New York.

Published as a set of 15, including several erotic drawings, John Lennon's Bag One lithos are the stuff of legend, helping to define his persona as he slowly broke away from the Beatles. "Bed Peace" is one of the most popular drawings in the set, so it rarely comes up for sale on its own. The original issue was 300 numbered lithos plus 45 artist's proofs with Roman numerals, this being #30/45 in the latter group, designated as "H.C. XXX/VL" in the bottom left. Rich Horowitz, a veteran dealer of the Lennon Bag One lithos, tells Heritage that H.C. stands for "hor's de commerce," or "not for sale." "John gave these artists' proofs away to friends and people who helped him with the project," Horowitz says. "They're not worth any more or any less than the regular numbers, but they certainly have the 'cool factor.' We used to love it when one of those would come in."

John signed all of the lithos at veteran rocker Ronnie Hawkins' farm outside of Toronto in 1969, a wildly active year in Lennon's career. He & Yoko were making news constantly, campaigning for peace, fighting the U.S. over immigration policies, still recording with the Beatles and taking "The Ballad of John & Yoko" into the Top 10, and starting to perform solo shows, one released as Live Peace in Toronto 1969. This was also the year that John & Yoko got married. The litho set was officially released by Cinnamon in 1970, the year the Fab Four broke up. The entire set has sold for over $50,000 at auction, and "Bed Peace" has fetched $20,000 individually.

Measures 23" x 30". In Very Good condition with creasing and tears along the right edge and corner bumping. COA from Heritage Auctions.
