Grateful Dead Wake of the Flood Album Cover Rick Griffin Preliminary Original Art (1973). For their first studio album since 1970's American Beauty, the Grateful Dead went to one of their favorite artists, Rick Griffin, to commission Wake of the Flood's eerie Gothic-style cover. Here is an original tight pencil drawing on onionskin paper, beautifully rendered by the late artist, showing a design closely matching the final printed version. The main image area measures approximately 16" x 17", with an additional 3" x 3" detail drawing in the right outer border. The thin paper is fragile with old folds, minor tears and pinholes, but still displays magnificently. Overall condition is Very Good Minus. Signed in gold ink in the lower right corner.
