Al Kilgore Elvis: The Paper Doll Book Original Art and Related Memorabilia Group of 20 (St. Martin's Press, 1982). This group will get you all shook up! The original art for the famed Elvis: The Paper Doll Book! This is the project that earned Al Kilgore the Special Features Award from the National Cartoonists Society in 1983. The colorful book itself is highly-prized by Elvis and paper doll collectors alike for its quality and attention to detail. With a larger-than-life subject such as the King of Rock and Roll, and with all of the eye-catching costumes he wore over the years, this project was destined for success!

In this group, there is the finished cover art for the book. Created with an original watercolor painting of Elvis, cut to the edges, and then affixed to a 14" x 18.5" blue-on-blue background. The final printed cover substituted a periwinkle color for the dark blue. The Elvis "paper doll" cut-out is starting to curl from the board, and has a couple of glue residue stains on the costume; however, it is still in Excellent condition. Also included is an alternate cover design by Kilgore. This design piece was created in pastels on 14" x 18.5" paper, then affixed to a slightly larger sheet of illustration board. It has a couple of marginal rips and some discoloration from the glue, and is in Very Good condition.
Next, are numerous pieces of original art for the paper dolls and their clothes, 17 pages of dolls and clothes for Elvis and Priscilla! Most pages have two figures or clothes sets on them. They are produced in ink and watercolor over graphite on Bristol board. Each piece of art has been cut out and affixed to the 15" x 20" illustration board page. The dolls stand approximately 15" to 16" tall each.
In addition, there are two pages of doll outline original art on onionskin paper, the back cover art, and some pages of production art paste-up text pieces for the cover.
A copy of the printed book is included, and as a bonus, there is an uncut press proof sheet of 16 pages on a huge single-sided 37" x 50" sheet that has been folded down to the size of the actual book. But wait... there's more! A manila folder that includes a sales kit, newspaper clippings, a couple of post cards, and other related items. You can't help falling in love with this collection!
