Description

Woodstock Festival Light Tower Banner (1969). During the original Woodstock music festival, the promoters were faced with an unusual problem -- people were climbing up the towers erected on the sight for lighting, trying to get a better view of the stage. Afraid that the partying climbers might fall to their deaths, stage designer Chip Monck had cloth banners sewn on the spot to hang along the towers, hoping that would keep people on the ground and out of harm's way. Here is an original cloth banner made at and used during that historic concert event. It measures approximately 34" x 44", with four grommets for hanging. Chip Monck has stated that this lips-and-tongue design was later modified into the famous Rolling Stones logo that he later designed and used for the Stones' Sticky Fingers album in 1972. The double-sided banner is in Excellent condition, having been carefully stored away by Mr. Monck after the event. Let your "freak flag fly" with this important bit of Rock history!
