    Description

The Monkees/Jimi Hendrix Experience Forest Hills Music Festival Matchbook (1967). Before Jimi Hendrix became a household name in America, he was a guitarist from Seattle who made a splash in England. Hoping to bring his popularity back stateside, he and his band opened for a band made up of huge fans: the Monkees. So, the Monkees and Hendrix were paired up in the summer of 1967. The pairing did not go well, as Hendrix's acid rock was not for the Monkees' cheeky pop audience. Hendrix would eventually leave the tour early. This flattened matchbook was made for the July 14th, 15th, and 16th shows at the Forest Hills Music Festival, and housed in clear plastic. These wound up being the last shows Hendrix played with the Monkees. Measures 1.5" x 4.3" and in a 3" x 5" frame. In Very Good Plus condition with some light toning and soiling. COA from Heritage Auctions.
