    Description

The Beatles - Original Copy of Mersey Beat Vol. 1, No. 13 (UK, 1962). Very Few Copies Known to Exist. This January 4-18, 1962 edition of the influential Liverpool music paper features an outstanding cover photo of the Beatles in their early days with Pete Best on drums, looking more like Rockabilly toughs than the lovable mop-tops the world fell in love with a short time later. Photo taken by Liverpool based photographer Albert Marrion. Above the band's image is a bold headline exclaiming "Beatles Top Poll!" The paper ran a "Mersey Beat Popularity Poll", the results of which are on page 4, featuring the Beatles in the number one spot, with Gerry and the Pacemakers tailing them at number two. Other acts to make the top twenty list are the Undertakers, Rory Storm and the Hurricanes, Johnny Sandon and the Searchers, and sixteen others. Incredibly rare, there are only a few copies known to exist of this issue! Measures approximately 9.75" x 12.5". Good Condition considering the rarity, age, and newsprint composition of this item. Has slight folding marks, a small tear in the upper left next to Johns head, chipping at the edges, some spine wear, mild toning, and handling wear. An exceptionally rare and widely considered to be the most desirable of all the Mersey Beat newspapers. We can't stress enough the rarity of this item. A true cornerstone to the collection.
