Superb Collection of Original Beatles Memorabilia from their August 20, 1965, Performance in Chicago, including Two Pillowcases Slept on by a Beatle. Think back to the summer of 1965 (many of us Fab Four Fanatics can!) and pretend you were a teenage girl (ok, that's a stretch for many of us!). What would be about the coolest news your dad could give you while on a family picnic? Well, among the top answers would have to be that the Beatles were going to be staying at his hotel while in town for their next concerts, planned for Comiskey Park in Chicago. You had seen them the year before at their concert in the International Amphitheatre, you are the president of their local fan club; you had already seen their fab new movie Help! a few times, and were playing the grooves off their new LP. Now, you were probably going to meet them! OMG! (or whatever teenage girls said back then). You were sworn to secrecy for awhile but when the big day came, you bragged to all your friends and took your place with your family in the room across the hall from their rooms in the hotel tower. The next two days were the stuff of dreams.
Beth, the young lady to whom all this happened has decided, after nearly forty-seven years, to share her memories and personal cache of Beatle souvenirs with some other lucky fan. Here are the highlights:
    1) Two Pillowcases- Pale yellow 30" x 19" pillowcases removed from two of the Beatles' beds at her dad's hotel, the O'Hare Sahara Inn in Schiller Park, Illinois. It is lost to history whose bed these belonged to, but hey, does it really matter?
    2) "Autographed" U.S. Help! Album- Beth gave her recently-purchased album to one of their managers, asking to have the Beatles autograph it. Ringo even wrote "To Beth from the Beatles". Unfortunately, as with many of these, the signatures were accomplished by one of their road managers. Still, a great piece of period memorabilia.
    3) Autographs of Neil Aspinall and Mal Evans- "To Beth Nice to meet you Mal Evans" and "Neil Aspinall (Road Manager)"
    4) Original Glossy Photos from the Set of Help!- Six 9.75" x 7.5" b&w glossies taken by Beatles Monthly photographer Leslie Bryce.
    5) Other Photos- Three other photos left behind include a great, unfamiliar 7.75" x 10" b&w glossy of George Harrison on a swing.
    6) Fan Mail- A nice group of letters addressed to the Beatles at the hotel and left behind by them. Very interesting to read.
    7) Chewing Gum Wrapper Chain- Gifted to the Beatles by some female fans.
While not from her adventure at the O'Hare Sahara, Beth is including other items from her collection, as follows:
1964 Chicago Concert Program and Ticket Stub- From their September 5th performance.
Beatles Dolls- A Ringo Starr Remco Doll, a Ringo Starr bobblehead (damaged), and a Paul McCartney bobblehead.
Also included: a two page letter from the consignor telling the complete story of her brush with the Beatles. Beth is selling her souvenirs, but as she says, "This is one of those incredible memories that will live on forever."
"We were at a family picnic in the forest preserves outside of Chicago the day my dad told me the Beatles would be staying at our hotel- The O'Hare Sahara on their tour this coming summer. That was the GREAT news. The BAD news was that I couldn't tell any one. I was 13 years old and the president of my local Beatles Fan Club! My lips were sealed. The big day arrived and I was finally able to share the 411 with my friends. Only the immediate family was allowed in the Tower where they would be staying.-So I was cleared through security and spent the next 2 days with my eyes peeled to the door to their room, which was exactly across from ours.
I must have pinched myself a hundred times over the next 48 hours. Some of the highlights I recall:
    • Offering Ringo an amazing chocolate chip cookie from the hotel bakery- His response: Little girl its late and you should be in your room.
    • Shaking hands with each one of them as they were snuck out the back entrance of the hotel and shuttled off to the concert in the O'Hare Sahara van.
    • John Lennon knocking on our door as he returned from the concert at Comiskey Park- My mom answering and John said "I can't get back in me room- the key doesn't work.
    • Brian Epstein ranting and raving in the hallway in his underwear-something about not being able to find his suit.
    • My dad having breakfast with the fabulous 4 both mornings- and the chaps assuring him that he wouldn't want his innocent daughter seeing them like this (hung over and scraggly).
    • Girls coming and going all night.
    • My mom had arrived with my brothers to come up to the Tower where we were staying on the Beatles floor. Security refused to give her entry and said they didn't care who she was. My dad had failed to inform security that she would be arriving. She had to get back in the car and drive home to call my dad as he was no where to be found on the property This was long before cell phones. She had to drive all the way home and get my dad to come pick her up.
    • Mal Evans spending a lot of time in our room telling stories.

I have quite a haul in souvenirs from that weekend:
    • A signed album- To Beth- Love the Beatles- with all 4 signatures- only to find out that Neil Aspinall did all of their autographs during those years
    • A signed 5" x 8" -same story
    • Gobs of fan mail that went unread by the Beatles
    • 2 pillow cases from the beds that they slept on (my dad caught the head of housekeeping cutting up the sheets and selling them in the parking lot- He dismissed her immediately and began to give out the remainder for free to the patient fans that had camped out in the parking lot for days.
    • Publicity photos from Help left behind
    • Personal photos of George
    • Personal photos of Mal Evans
    • A gum chain a fan had sent- and appeared in the Chicago Sun Times."

All items are in generally fine condition unless otherwise noted.
