    Description

John Lennon and Yoko Ono Amsterdam "Bed-In For Peace" Ephemera Collection, April-June, 1969. In response to the seemingly never-ending war in Vietnam, John and Yoko held two week-long "Bed-Ins" for peace. The first such event was held in Amsterdam March 25th through the 31st of 1969. It was a honeymoon of sorts as the couple got married a few days before on March 20th. The week-long event became a media circus and provided a verse for Lennon's "The Ballad of John and Yoko": "Drove from Paris to the Amsterdam Hilton / Talking in our beds for a week / The newspapers said / Say what're you doing in bed / I said we're only trying to get us some peace". This lot includes: 1) Dutch record company n.v. Bovema receipt to John Lennon Productions dated April 1969 for the printing of a "Hair Peace Poster". 2) Two real photo postcards featuring John and Yoko standing before the Eiffel Tower in Paris, with "Love + Peace = Bagism" printed on the reverse side of each. 3) 9.5" x 7.25" black-and-white contemporary Dutch news photograph of John and Yoko in bed at the Amsterdam Hilton. 4) Typescript letter, in Dutch, 8.25" x 11.5" on Rudi Carrell Show letterhead to Hans Boskamp, dated March 28, 1969 and signed by Carrell. Carrell was a popular Dutch entertainer and Hans Boskamp was a Dutch footballer and actor who worked for Bovema records and accompanied John and Yoko during their "bed-in". The letter (loosely translated) begins: "I tried to reach you by telephone but you were in bed with John Lennon." 5) Hans Boskamp's expense sheet for John and Yoko's stay at the Amsterdam Hilton, 8" x 10", typescript with additions in blue ink, undated, circa April, 1969. The expense sheet has line items for John and Yoko's Amsterdam/Vienna/London KLM airline tickets and for those of the camera crew that accompanied them, hotel expenses and crew expenses. With the inked additions the total for John and Yoko's first "Bed-In" came to 25,060.50 Dutch guilders. 6) John and Yoko's KLM tickets for Amsterdam/Vienna/London and the travel bureau receipts and paperwork to accompany them. The quick trip to Vienna and return trip to London provided two other verses in the "Ballad of John and Yoko": "Made a lightning trip to Vienna / Eating chocolate cake in a bag / The newspapers said
She's gone to his head / They look just like two gurus in drag" and "Caught the early plane back to London / Fifty acorns tied in a sack / The men from the press / Said we wish you success / It's good to have the both of you back". 7) Typescript letter from L. G. Wood on Electrical and Musical Industries Limited letterhead, 8.25" x 11.5", dated April 1, 1969, to G. M. Oord of Bovema Records, reading in part: "...please note that all expenses, including Hotel bills, incurred by JOHN LENNON during his stay in Holland recently should be submitted to ABKCO industries... for the attention of Mr. Allen Klein...In no circumstances should Bovema pay these expenses." 8) A gathering of printed contemporary newspaper articles written about the Amsterdam "Bed-In". All items in very good or better condition.
