Janis Joplin - Handwritten Big Brother and the Holding Company Rehearsal Song List Written in Her Own Hand (1967). Written on two sides of a sheet of paper in various colored inks and pencil, with the main body of the list written by Janis, with annotations by Joplin and several other members of the band. Features 53 total songs, essentially everything the band was performing early to mid 1967, including the five songs that comprised Big Brother's set list at Monterey Pop: "Down on Me," "Combination of the Two," "Harry," "Road Block," and "Ball and Chain." Other songs include "Easy Rider," "Madman Blues," "Amazing Grace," and many more. Measures 8.5" x 11". In Very Good condition, with toning due to age, staining/soiling, creasing, bleeding to some ink, and general handling wear.

1967 was a landmark year for Big Brother and the Holding Company. The hardworking band played the Monterey Pop Festival in June, and much like the Jimi Hendrix Experience, Monterey blew the doors wide open for Big Brother. National interest in the band skyrocketed, and by that November, they were signed to Columbia Records.

    Provenance: The Dave Getz Collection.

    More Information:

Originally a painter and Jazz drummer, Dave Getz joined Psychedelic Rock pioneers Big Brother & the Holding Company early in their storied career, helping forge their classic sound with his hard-driving, bluesy percussion. He performed on both the band's self-titled debut and their landmark offering, Cheap Thrills, as well as later post-Janis albums. The influence of Getz and his bandmates on the popular music landscape of the time cannot be overstated. Here we offer several pieces of Big Brother memorabilia from his personal collection, never before offered at auction anywhere.
