Description

Elvis Presley Owned Eyeglasses (1975). In early 1975, Elvis purchased a Convair 880 Jet that had recently been taken out of service by Delta Airlines. He paid $250,000 for the jet, then $350,000 over the next eight months to have it made over to his specifications, naming it the Lisa Marie, after his only child, then six years old. The refurbishing was a major job, and our consignor was there with Ward International Aircraft Services at Meacham Field in Fort Worth, Texas from the beginning, refashioning the Convair.

Elvis was in Las Vegas during most of 1975, but made frequent trips to check on the progress of the project, always traveling at night to avoid causing a scene. Our consignor always knew when Presley had visited, "...by the empty thin clear plastic drink glasses left on top of my big Snap-On tool box parked beside the entrance way to the aircraft." One morning he arrived to find this pair of prescription, lightly-tinted eyeglasses on top of his tool box - Elvis must've approved of how the work was coming along! Not as elaborate as other Elvis sunglasses we've seen (several of which we've offered in past auctions), this pair nonetheless exudes Presley, from the cutting-edge curved lenses to the "EP" between the eyes. He may not have ever met Elvis in person, but this "gift" from The King has been a part of him for over 37 years!
