Elvis Presley And Other Stars Used KWKH Shure Microphone (1955-1975). The sights and sounds this one microphone has experienced are unique. If we could only hit 'playback'! It's a Shure Brothers Model 55s from Shreveport, LA radio station KWKH and was used in the station's studios and, more significantly, for the station's famous broadcasts of The Louisiana Hayride. Think of the stars that performed with it! Johnny Cash, George Jones, Marty Robbins, Ray Price, Roy Acuff, Charley Pride, Roger Miller - and many more, including one Elvis Aron Presley. On one historic occasion, December 15, 1956, the microphone was there to project the words of Hayride announcer Horace Logan, when he first coined the phrase, "Elvis has left the building". It was Elvis' final appearance on the Hayride, and Logan was merely attempting to get the teenage fans to take their seats, so the remainder of the show could go on!
The microphone was owned by KWKH until 1975, when it was sold along with the name and assets of the Louisiana Hayride radio program to David Kent. When David Kent died in January, 1992, it was passed down to his son, Joey Kent. COAs from Frank Page (KWKH, 1947-present) and Joey Kent.
