Del Shannon's Stage Played 1962 Sunburst Epiphone Olympic. Del Shannon (real name: Charles Westover) had a stream of successful singles, beginning in 1961 with the Billboard #1 "Runaway". In the five ensuing years he had 15 additional charting singles, including three Top Twenty hits ("Hats Off to Larry", "Little Town Flirt", and "Keep Searchin'"). And in 1963, he became the first American to cover a Beatles tune, "From Me to You". He also wrote the Top Ten hit "I Go to Pieces" for Peter and Gordon. It's believed that this vintage Del Shannon-owned '62 Epiphone was purchased at Valley Arts Guitar in Studio City, CA. in the mid-1980s. At the time of the Rock & Roll Hall of Famer's death in 1990, Shannon owned just three guitars, including our offering.

Also included here: a Fender tweed guitar case road-worn from numerous gigs and studio rehearsals; a black and white checkered cap that was a favorite among many that Del owned; a red mini Fender practice amp used mostly in his home office in Valencia, CA for tuning and playing at low volume; and a luggage tag for the guitar case.

On YouTube you can view Del playing the guitar on "Runaway" and "Hats Off to Larry" for a 1989 TV special Let's Rock Tonight. One of the most distinctive voices in Rock & Roll history was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1999.

The guitar has normal wear from years of touring, with nicks and scratches on the body and headstock. Tuners have been replaced. Overall it's in Good condition and still a great-playing guitar.
