DescriptionBob Dylan "Subterranean Homesick Blues" Promotional Lyric Sheet (Columbia, 1965). Typed in blue on two sides of light blue paper with "Inside Columbia" letterhead. Features all four verses of the song, including the lyrics "Johnny's in the basement mixing up the medicine / I'm on the pavement / Thinking about the government / The man in the trench coat badge out laid off / Says he's got a bad cough / Wants to get it paid off..." Measures approximately 8.5" x 11", in Very Good condition, with some light toning/fading, light creasing, handling wear, and a small area of loss at the top-right corner.
Dylan's first top 40 hit in the US and a top 10 hit in the UK, "Subterranean Homesick Blues" is considered by many to be one of the most influential songs of all time. Influenced by the writings of Beat author Jack Kerouac, Chuck Berry's "Too Much Monkey Business" and in Dylan's own words "some of the scat songs of the '40s," the song went on to influence generations of artists, from contemporaries like John Lennon, to Millenium-era Rock act Jet. A history-defining moment in popular music.
