Beatles Yesterday and Today Unused Album Cover Color Key Proof (Capitol Records, 1966). Although the infamous and outrageous "Butcher Cover" album cover was preferred by the Beatles (especially Paul McCartney, who considered it as a response to the Vietnam War), Capitol Records had also prepared several "safe" versions of this U. S. and Canada-only LP, first released on June 20, 1966. This is a color key (the four basic printing colors on clear film) for one of the alternate designs, prepared as a final proof before the cover went to press. As it turns out, this version was ultimately scrapped in favor of a stark white design, using a similar shot of the lads posing with a luggage trunk, but with the title simplified to "Yesterday and Today". This item measure 14" x 15.25", and is marked "#1" and stamped "Ray Polley Received May 27, 1966" on the paper backing the overlays are taped to.
