    Description

Beatles Yesterday and Today Mock Up, Notes, Letters, and Proofs. An amazing "insiders" look at the behind-the-scenes processes in getting the artwork for a new Beatles record release just right. This was not just any record cover; it was the controversial "Butcher" cover. The internal memo carbons in this lot give great insight into the various problems encountered trying to meet Brian Epstein's demands on this album. In one memo dated May 27, 1966, it is stated: "Design number four is the one that Mr. Epstein and Marvin Schwartz agreed upon. Because it was thought by some Capitol people that this design did not present as salable image as some others might, we include designs one, two, and three for Mr. Epstein's consideration. Mr. Livingston would prefer one of these but, of course, the decision is with Mr. Epstein." Another bone of contention was that Epstein wanted them to use "Angel type" paper instead of the standard "Pop" variety that was considerably cheaper and more readily available at the pressing plants. Fascinating reading. A number of these memo carbons are included along with full size album cover proofs in a large "2553" stamped folder. Generally fine condition.
