DescriptionBeatles Vintage Color Pin-Up Screamers and "Beatle Buddies" Portraits both in Original Packaging (US, 1964). The pin-ups are 8.5" x 22" color caricatures by Gordon Currie, one of each Beatle, still in its original envelope printed with a 50¢ price. One small tear and light wear to the package, prints are Excellent. This very nice set of portraits were made from paintings by famous portrait artist Leo Jansen, 9" x 12" in size, and in the original packaging with the Beatle Buddies' Club membership card intact. There is an interesting story behind this particular NEMS-licensed product. They were put out by American singer Pat Boone! His records were not faring well amidst the onslaught by the Beatles and fellow British acts. He has talked about it in several interviews: "I couldn't sell records so I sold prints of the Beatles." He hired a portrait painter (Leo Jansen) and "...had him paint a picture, individual and group portrait of the Beatles and then I knew a guy in the marketing business and we lithographed these prints. Put 'em in packages, put a numbered stub in the packages and sold 'em all over the country through Sears and I was making more money selling Beatles pictures than selling my own records." Also Excellent. From the Uwe Blaschke Beatles Collection.
