Beatles-Related - Apple Our First Four Promotional Package (Apple Records, 1968). It was a very big deal when Apple Records was launched in 1968. Anything involving the Beatles was a very big deal in 1968! Understandably the label went all out promoting itself - in this example, a slick promotional kit was put together to be distributed to the "movers and shakers" of the recording industry, that included copies of the first four 45 single releases by the new company; hence, the kit's title Our First Four. The singles: the Beatles' "Hey Jude"/ "Revolution" (Apple 5722); Mary Hopkin's "Those Were the Days"/ "Turn Turn Turn" (Apple 2); Jackie Lomax's "Sour Milk Tea"/ "The Eagle Laughs at You" (Apple 3); and Black Dyke Mills Band's "Thingumybob"/ "Yellow Submarine" (Apple 4), produced by someone named Paul McCartney. Each 45 came in a mini-portfolio, with artist "liner notes" on the front, the record in a plastic sleeve on the first inside page, and a photo of the artist on the other inside page. The back was blank.
Famed record producer Snuff Garrett (Johnny Burnette, Gary Lewis and the Playboys, Gene McDaniels, Bobby Vee, and others) was the recipient of this particular kit, and included here is a note from Ron Kass, who headed up the Apple's US operations, to Snuff, "You may want to keep this copy for one of your collections." And he did for the last three decades!
The records have never been played, but are "foggy" after having been in their plastic sleeves for so long, and grade about VG 5. The mini-portfolios are Near Mint; the cardboard Our First Four box about Very Good with some wear along the edges and a repaired tear at the back tab where the box opens.
