Beatles - John Lennon Lock Of Hair And Autograph Won In A Bravo Magazine Competition (Germany, 1966). The strands are approximately 1.5" to 2" long and are tied together with a white piece of ribbon in a polythene bag with another piece of ribbon that is signed in ink by John Lennon. The hair and ribbon are framed with a printed "Certificate/This is to certify/ that this hair is/ an original curl/ of John Lennon./ Munich September 1966/G. Thomas Beyl/BRAVO chief reporter". The frame mat is inscribed with a poem written in German in black felt pen, which translates to:

"In Bravo, page 8 and 9,
    John looks so sad,
And thinks: "How do I look now!,
The hair is off, oh horror, oh terror!"
They cut off many a strand of hair,
    now John has a mini-mane."

The mat is inscribed at the bottom right corner "Barbara Lüttkopf, September 1966". The frame measures 15" x 13" overall. In Very Good overall condition. Some of the hair has detached from the ribbon and has settled at the bottom of the bag. There is a seal attached to the certificate which has cracked into two pieces. The mat has toned and discolored.

In 1966, John Lennon famously had his hair cut in preparation for his role as Gripweed in the movie How I Won The War, Richard Lester's dark comedy about a fictional British army troop and their misadventures in World War II. German magazine Bravo acquired some of Lennon's locks and gave them away as prizes in a poetry writing competition. The subject was the cutting of John Lennon's hair and Barbara Lüttkopf was one of the lucky winners.

A lock of John Lennon's hair sold at Heritage Auctions in February, 2016 for $35,000.
