Beatles - George Harrison Signed "Last Supper" Parody Photograph in a Matted Display (1973). A 10" x 7" B&W (and color) glossy photo of Harrison standing, dressed as a priest wearing a six-shooter, in the midst of others seated (including Ringo Starr) at a long banquet table on the front grounds of a Tudor-style mansion, signed in black ink on the white table cloth area: "To Sarah/ love from George/ Harrison". This photo was used as the inside left gatefold cover for his 1973 album Living in the Material World. Double matted to an overall 15.75" x 11.75". Very Fine. COA from Heritage Auctions. It would be easy to assume that this photo was taken at Harrison's Friar Park home in England. Rather, it was shot in California on the front lawn of entertainment lawyer Abe Somers' home by Playboy photographer Ken Marcus. The subjects in the photo are musicians who worked on the album (left to right): Ringo Starr, Jim Horn, Klaus Voormann, George Harrison, Nicky Hopkins, Jim Keltner, and Gary Wright (who wasn't actually there that day; his face was placed over a photo of stand-in Abe Somers). In order to make George "stand out," a color image of him was overlaid on top of the B&W photo. The table is set with food and wine meant to be reminiscent of da Vinci's The Last Supper. There are numerous ideas about the symbolism in the photo (especially the priest outfit); George himself explained that taken as a whole, the various details in the photo represent the "gross aspects" of the material world (i.e. wine, women, limo - complete with chauffeur, sports car, extravagant home, etc.).
