Beatles Forest Hills Music Festival 1964 Program (US, 1964). A spectacular program not just for the Beatles content but for a wonderful slice of pop culture during the period. The large program measures 9" x 12" and contains 60 unnumbered pages, staple bound into illustrated stiff paper wrappers. Besides the usual black-and-white photos of the Beatles and bios of the band, there are numerous ads throughout the program with Beatles associations. A coupon for Alexander's offers a 20% discount on all Beatles Capitol records, there is a full-page ad for Beatles shirts and hats, Capitol Records advertises four of the Fab Four's albums – Meet the Beatles, The Beatles' Second Album, Something New and Four by the Beatles (EP), United Artists has a full-page ad for the A Hard Day's Night soundtrack album and a full page ad for the film. The period advertisements for clothing, sports cars and liquor capture the spirit of the time, capped off by a full-color ad featuring a new 1964 Volkswagen bus on the back cover. Even the Field's Brothers men's apparel four-page insert (typically missing) remains stapled in the center of the program as originally issued. Good stuff. Though the Beatles were clearly the main buzz at the festival the other acts that were on the bill that summer were quite spectacular and included Barbra Streisand, Trini Lopez, Count Basie, Woody Allen, Harry Belafonte with Miriam Makeba, Joan Baez, Johnny Mathis and Peter Nero. The Beatles played two performances at the festival, one on August 28 and another the following day. The boys occupied the top five spots on the Billboard Hot 100 at the time so they were riding high. The boys played a twelve song set on August 29th including "Twist and Shout", "You Can't Do That", "All My Loving", "She Loves You", "Things We Said Today", "Roll Over Beethoven", "Can't Buy Me Love", "If I Fell", "I Want to Hold Your Hand", "Boys", "A Hard Day's Night" and "Long Tall Sally". The program has some minor foxing to the covers with modest handling wear overall, along with creases and folding. Otherwise, it is in very good condition. From the Connie and Dennis Dailey Monumental Beatles Collection.
