DescriptionBeatles - A Rare Ray Charles Pennant from the Star-Club, With A Set of Star-Club Ink Stamps (Germany, 1960s and Later). This rare Ray Charles Star-Club pennant likely dates to his 1963 appearance at the venue, a very good time in his career. His touring group had expanded from a small combo to a full big-band, including his backing singers the Raelettes. The banner proclaims the Star-Club to be "The Meeting Place of the Rock N' Twist World Elite", and talent such as Charles playing the venue certainly substantiates the claim. Measures 15" x 8", of woven cream fabric with the text imprinted. In Very Good condition with some light creasing and scuffs to the front, and a 4" stain on the back.
Also included is a set of ink stamps from the club, thee of which are specific to the Star-Club by name, and a fourth which reads "Packchen" signifying a parcel, it was likely for mailing. The round Star-Club stamp dates to the 1960s, the other three may be later reproductions. Each measures approximately 3" high, and is made of varnished wood, all in Excellent condition. From the Uwe Blaschke Beatles Collection.
