Here is a fantastic group of Tony Sheridan items from the Star-Club, where he was a one of the regular performers and biggest draws throughout the 1960s. An undated 6" x 4" payment receipt from the club bears Sheridan's signature in bold blue ink. An undated 8" x 12" Star-Club flyer promotes Sheridan as part of the "Internationale BEAT BAND SHOW" in Hamburg, while an intricate 6" x 8.5" four-page program shows Sheridan as the headliner of the "For Rockers Only" Star-Club Big Beat Ball held in Berlin. Rounding out the group is a fantastic, one-of-a-kind item: a 20" wide name banner which hung on Sheridan's dressing room door at the Star-Club! The autographed receipt and four-page Berlin flyer in Excellent condition, the Hamburg flyer and Star-Club dressing room banner in Good condition, with creasing, folds, and tears.
Biographic note: Tony Sheridan was a brilliant guitarist and singer whom the young Beatles held in great esteem, and with whom, of course, they would make the historic "My Bonnie" single. Sheridan was a regular on British TV in the late 1950s, and it was Sheridan's London-based band, The Jets, who were the first English rock & roll band to make the voyage to Hamburg, playing in Bruno Koschmider's Kaiserkeller. By the end of the Jets' first week there, the club was packed, setting the stage for the British invasion of Hamburg. In Hamburg the Beatles would often nip away to see Sheridan perform, and he consequently became the first "star" the Beatles ever befriended. Looking up to his professional stature they sought to learn from him - John Lennon adopted a legs-apart stance at the microphone was pure Sheridan, and George Harrison would intently study Sheridan's guitar technique, adopting it to his own. When the Beatles returned for their second residency in Hamburg in 1961 they shared the stage with Sheridan at the Top Ten Club, where Bert Kaempfert saw them perform, leading to "My Bonnie." Sheridan later settled in Hamburg and remained a star in Germany until his passing in 2013. From The Uwe Blaschke Beatles Collection. COA from Heritage Auctions.
