Description

A Collection of Beatles Items from the Bravo- Beatles - Blitztournee (Germany, 1966 and later). During their heyday years of touring the Beatles typically mounted an international venture in the Summer, which in 1966 was rather brief - less than two weeks - and took them to just Germany, Japan, and the Philippines. This was the group's first time back in Germany since their final performance at the Star-Club on New Years Eve 1962. The Beatles started the tour with a bang - six shows, two a day over three consecutive days, in three separate cities - Munich, Essen, and of course, Hamburg. This rapid undertaking was dubbed the "blitztournee" (lightning tour), and was promoted heavily by the German entertainment magazine Bravo, thus signage appeared at all three venues proclaiming the Bravo-Beatles-Blitztournee. The German tour was a massive success and a homecoming of sorts in Hamburg, where many of their past acquaintances met with them, including Astrid Kirchherr and Bert Kaempfert. The fervor for the group in Hamburg was so intense that riots broke out outside the concert hall, and dozens of young fans were arrested.
This lot includes a number of items which document the Blitztournee, primarily photographs. There are dozens of individual images of the Beatles in performance, at press conferences, arriving and departing the different cities, meeting with their German record company, photos of their fans, and the stunning photo of the four Beatles greeting fans from a balcony at the Schlosshotel Tremsbuttel near Hamburg, the image which is featured on the cover of The Uwe Blaschke Beatles Collection catalogue. There are over 60 photographs in total, most later prints and some images repeated, approximately 10 with press and/or photographer notations on the versos. All in Excellent condition, the largest 9.5" x 7".
Vintage items include an 11" x 25" banner advertising the Blitztournee issue of Bravo with images of the Beatles, a bronze Beatles medallion in it's original box issued in Germany at the time of the Blitztournee, and a BEA route map booklet from the era. Also includes a Blitztournee commemorative folder which holds a reproduction of the tour program, postcards, photos, and a complete set of vintage Beatles stamps which were issued in Germany in 1966. The folder and items Excellent, the vintage items all Very Good. From the Uwe Blaschke Beatles Collection.
