(Beatles) Bel-Air Association Letter to Reginald Owen After the Fab Four Were Guests at His Home (1964).
In August, 1964 the Beatles (due to their rowdy Rock N' Roll reputation) were unable to book a hotel room for their performance at the Hollywood Bowl. Their solution? Why, they rented the Bel-Air mansion of classically-trained English actor Reginald Owen, of course. The Beatles must have had quite the legendary party at Owen's residence, as the following month, the Bel-Air Association sent a strongly-worded letter to Owen. Dated "24 September 1964" and typed on Bel-Air Association letterhead, the letter reads in part: "Dear Mr. & Mrs. Owen: Numerous complaints have been received from your neighbors and other residents of Bel-Air expressing their displeasure over your action in housing the Beatles at your home...A great deal of damage to property and inconvenience to the residents was caused..." Signed at the bottom right in blue ballpoint by Bel-Air Association Manager George P. Richardson. Measures 8.5" x 11". In Fine condition, with light toning due to age and two original horizontal folds.
