Led Zeppelin 1970 Berlin, Germany Second-Album-Tour Concert Poster. An original large paper concert poster for Led Zeppelin appearing in Berlin, Germany on Sunday, July 19, 1970. Naturally, the writing is all in German, and the industrial imagery of a zeppelin in a hangar is one of the most popular of all the band's European tour-poster images. The graphics convey strength and heavy-metal power with compelling effectiveness.

This was the fourth and last show of a brief four-date German stop for the band, promoting their second album, Led Zeppelin II, and already previewing tracks from their next LP to be released in about three months. A crowd of 6,000 had a great time, experiencing a show that 150,000 people had just witnessed days earlier at the Bath Festival in England.

There are many enthusiastic accounts of this show, both in book and on-line form. "The band is on," one fan wrote about this night. "'Dazed and Confused' was great, with Robert's vocals simply perfect." Zep had only been touring or about a year-and-a-half at this point, so were still very fresh and hungry.

This great piece comes from our consignor in Germany, who also consigned the Janis Joplin, Elton John and Who posters in this auction, so it's been in Germany for all of its 51 years up until now. Measures 23 1/2" x 33" and grades to Very Good condition. COA from Heritage Auctions.

More Information: Poster was once folded down into... get this... sixteenths, but the damage is not nearly as bad as it sounds. Very visible on the verso, but the front of the poster is a solid, hearty presentation with zero color breaks from the folds, including on the deep red of "Led Zeppelin" and dark black of the upper background. That's just such a blessing. Pinholes in each of the top two corners and round tack holes/impressions on the white in the bottom two corners. There's also an infinitesimally small nick of edge paper missing by the lower left tack hole, too tiny to even measure. Some additional vertical edge creasing in the black to the left of the airplane. Some edge creasing of a lesser degree in a couple of other places, such as the right of the banner and lower right of the "N" in "Zeppelin." Light toning throughout. One collector walked by this poster at Heritage and immediately said, "This is the condition I like my old European concert posters in – you just know it's real." Indeed, it screams of 50 years ago this summer, and eminently frameable.
