LaVern Baker, Steve Cropper & Duck Dunn (Mar-Keys) 1961 Jumbo Chicago Concert Poster. An original cardboard window card advertising "40 Terrific Stars," led by LaVern Baker and The Mar-Keys, in concert at Chicago's esteemed Regal Theatre for a full week beginning Friday, October 20, 1961. Miss Baker, a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, burnt up the R&B charts for Atlantic Records in the second half of the 1950's. Known for catchy hits like "Tweedle-Dee" and "Jim Dandy," LaVern kept going in the early 60's with "Saved" this year and the Top 10 "See See Rider" in '62. Measures 22" x 28" and grades to Very Good Plus condition. COA from Heritage Auctions.

More Information: The Mar-Keys were the house band at Stax/Volt Records in Memphis, with Steve Cropper on guitar and Donald "Duck" Dunn on bass. They were sitting in the top five of the R&B charts this very week with "Last Night," a #2 hit. Cropper and Dunn would move on to join Booker T. & the MG's, which produced several memorable instrumental hits. The duo's pop-culture status was elevated even further when they provided the musical backing for John Belushi and Dan Ackroyd in their Blues Brothers recording and touring.

Condition details: Only the presence of two edge tears prevent this from being graded Mint or Near Mint. The tears in question are a ¾" tear to the left of the red "The" – it does hit the yellow, but not the letter – and a much smaller one strictly in the white margin to the left of "Red" (Saunders). Otherwise this poster is crisp and beautiful, with barely any harm to even the corners.
