Jefferson Airplane/Big Brother and the Holding Company "Tribal Stomp" Fillmore Auditorium Concert Poster FD-1 (Family Dog, 1966). Chet Helms formed the Family Dog collective in February, 1966, with the intent to put on Rock concerts at San Francisco's Fillmore Auditorium, and later at the Avalon Ballroom. Here is a first printing copy of the poster for that very first FD concert, held on 2/19/66. It's estimated that only 250 were printed. Headlining the show was Jefferson Airplane (in their original line-up with vocalist Signe Anderson). As an opening act, Chet picked the band he had been managing, Big Brother and the Holding Company; this is before Chet's Texas-born friend Janis Joplin had joined. The poster has had some restoration, including paper replacement along the edges and corners; it has been noted as a first printing by poster authority Eric King on the reverse side. It measures approximately 13.75" x 19.75", and has been signed in the lower right corner by artist/designer Wes Wilson. In Very Good Restored condition.

From the consignor: "The ink smudging at the bottom of this scarce piece was inherent on almost all original printings of this poster, as they were hand-rolled by Wes Wilson himself. Known as 'smudging,' to serious poster collectors, this ink residue does not lessen the value of this extremely rare piece, but actually adds to its authenticity as a very early example of Psychedelic Rock poster art that began in San Francisco in early 1966, fifty years ago."
