James Brown 1971 Detroit "Sex, Power and Love" Globe Concert Poster. A big, powerful concert poster from perhaps the King of Globe Posters himself, Mr. James Brown. This one's from 1971, a hugely prolific year that saw the Godfather of Soul churn out six Top 10 R&B hits, two of them cresting at #1. And they're listed on the poster, too - "Make It Funky" and "Hot Pants." Along with several other hits.

The famous Cobo Arena in Detroit, Michigan was host of this show, on what sounds like must have been Thanksgiving: Thursday, November 25, 1971. This huge window card has so many fun words... tickets were available at a record store, a barber shop, a department store, a restaurant and even a car wash.

Measures 22" x 35 3/8" and in Very Good condition. COA from Heritage Auctions.

More Information: And what a strong down-bill from James as well... the Dramatics had only one hit so far (it's on the poster), but would go on to chart 35 R&B singles in their career. The Stylistics had had two top-tenners, and had just released another, "You Are Everything." And listed in between those two? Just the man credited with discovering James Brown, Bobby Byrd. Whew!

Condition details: There's a 2 ½" tear from the top center margin down through the "B" in "Cobo," repaired on the back with clear cello tape. About a dozen set of unobtrusive staple holes appear throughout. Long crease in the left side of the bottom area, breaking the black ink in the word "Given." The lower left corner also has a crease. Union stamp to the right of "Contest" was before the show and is not considered damage. And "Detroit 1971" is written on the verso.
