Jackie Wilson, Chuck Jackson, Drifters, Temptations & Bobby "Blue" Bland 1965 Jumbo Globe Concert Poster. What a terrific line-up of R&B acts on this tall, Day-Glo cardboard window card made by Globe Poster of Baltimore. Great alternating orange & yellow color scheme from top to bottom, advertising the talents of Jackie Wilson, Chuck Jackson, the Drifters, the Temptations, Bobby "Blue" Bland, Maxine Brown, Yvonne Fair, Eloise Hester, Al "T.N.T." Braggs, Joe Scott and the Bobby Scott Band.

This all took place at the Columbia Township Auditorium in Columbia, South Carolina on Monday, September 13, 1965. It's charming how tickets were available at, among other places, a barber shop, a pharmacy and "Big Saul's Record Shop."

Jackie Wilson was, don't forget, the most talented and exciting stage performer that Motown's Berry Gordy has ever seen, Mr. Gordy has said. At this point Jackie was in between his hits "Baby Workout" and "(Your Love Keeps Lifting Me) Higher & Higher." Second-billed Chuck Jackson enjoyed a Top 10 R&B hit earlier this year, "Something You Got," which is nicely listed on the poster.

Any poster that has the Drifters' "Under the Boardwalk" on it has a major feather in its cap. Meanwhile, the Temptations were hot and getting hotter with both songs on this poster having been Top 5 R&B hits earlier this year - and "My Girl" also ascending to #1 pop. And the next four singles out of Bobby "Blue" Bland's chute, over the next 12 months, would all go Top 10 R&B, so that's a potent strip right through the middle of this window card.

This was the biggest year of Maxine Brown's career, with an impressive six singles landing on Billboard magazine's R&B singles chart; two of them are on the poster. And the next two ladies had nice pedigrees: Yvonne Fair had been a member of James Brown's tour revue earlier in the 60's, and Eloise Hester likewise with Ike & Tina Turner.

This tall-boy concert poster measures 22" x 35" and in Very Good condition. Restoration repairs made to very top of poster in four areas, including the two corners, and the bottom center in two areas. Toning throughout. Some white blotching and grime present plus a couple of water spots, but luckily almost none of these are where it would hurt: on the musicians' photos, their names or the Day-Glo color. In extreme lower left corner, the lower left portion of Al Braggs' photo may have been repaired a bit. There's also a small cello tape remnant down there. Small amount of cracking in the ink on "Wilson" and "Drifters." Verso has many small, dark tape remnants from when it was posted to a wall.

This rarity is the only copy of this poster we've ever heard of, from any stop on the whole tour, so it's certainly the only one Heritage has ever had for sale in our history. COA from Heritage Auctions.
