Description
Rolling Stones Related - 1957 Gibson CF-100 Acoustic Guitar Purchased by Keith Richards for Tour Manager Sam Cutler. Tour manager for the Stones' 1969 tour of the US, Sam Cutler can be heard introducing the band with the famous line "Ladies and Gentlemen, the Greatest Rock and Roll Band in the World... The Rolling Stones!" at the beginning of their 1970 live LP Get Yer Ya-Ya's Out!. During a stop in New York City, Cutler, Keith Richards, and Iain Stewart made a side trip to Manny's Music. Richards not only purchased a couple of electric guitars for his personal use, he also bought this Gibson CF-100 as a gift for Cutler after noticing him admiring it, which Cutler recounted in his book You Can't Always Get What You Want.Cutler kept the guitar with him on tour, playing in hotel rooms during tour stops. Since then, it's been played by Gram Parsons, Mick Taylor, Mike Bloomfield, Jerry Garcia, John "Marmaduke" Dawson, Doug Sahm, Ramblin' Jack Elliott, and Rick Danko, all of whom Cutler represented during his career. When it wasn't being kept handy in Cutler's office, it was traveling with him on the road, bearing witness to the heady years of the '60s and '70s music scene.
The guitar comes directly from Cutler, and is in Very Fine condition with an expected amount of play wear, some scratches and dings, mild to moderate weather checking, and a large area of belt buckle wear to the finish on the back. The tuning pegs were replaced at some point, but the originals are included as well as a hardshell carrying case and reproduced images of Cutler with the band and with the guitar. LOA from Rolling Stones business manager Ron Schneider.
