Benny Goodman Owned and Played Clarinet. An extraordinary artifact - a personally owned and played clarinet of The King of Swing, Benny Goodman. Arguably the greatest clarinetist of the 20th Century, Goodman reigned for decades atop his profession beginning in the late 1920s. He was at the forefront of the Big Band Era and instrumental in launching the careers of other Big Band greats such as Gene Krupa, Teddy Wilson, Harry James, Buddy Greco, and others. This particular Selmer, in its "BG" plated case, was given by Goodman to his longtime business manager Muriel Zuckerman, who in turn gave the instrument to her cousin Judy Landwehr. Included herein are a handwritten letter from Goodman to Zuckerman c. 1962, a photo of Goodman at rehearsal, another photo of Goodman with Zuckerman, and other related correspondence.
