Iggy & The Stooges 1973 Vancouver, B.C. "Raw Power" Concert Poster. An original vintage advertising poster for Iggy Pop & The Stooges in concert at The Pender in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada on Friday, August 10, 1973.

This is one of those rare and fun examples of a record-company promo poster doubling as a 'tour-blank' concert poster. Notice how nothing in the top 85%, in magenta, mentions anything about 'in concert.' It's a promo poster for the band's third album, Raw Power, released in May 1973. So the poster could be sent anywhere, and hung by any record store. The store could always write in the album's price in the white space below, if they wanted.

But in towns where the Iggy & the Stooges were passing through on tour, voila - make it a concert poster, too. Just write or print in the local date & time, venue information, ticket prices and so forth. All of the promotional words above would only help sell tickets.

The one twist is that the venue info here was printed in the exact same magenta as the body of the poster. So it's quite possible that Columbia worked with various promoters along the tour to print some posters and send them ahead whenever the local promoter wanted to use them.

Either way, it's one heck of a cool-looking poster for a highly influential band and album. No less than Kurt Cobain of Nirvana wrote in his journals (which were officially published) several times that Raw Power was his favorite album of all time. When he made a list of the top fifty albums he thought were most influential to Nirvana's sound, Raw Power led them all at #1.

Measures 13.5" x 22" and grades to Very Good condition. Many handling creases on this glossy piece. A one-inch tear on the left margin which was mended on the verso with masking tape, which has since bled through to the front to present a stain. An unrepaired half-inch tear is in the white margin seven inches above that. A little bit of 'dinging' throughout the poster as well, most notably right above "Platter" which breaks the color. General browning of the paper with age. COA from Heritage Auctions.
