Literature: See Grushkin, Paul, The Art of Rock Posters from Presley to Punk, Abbeville Press, New York, 1987, p.160 (illus.).

Provenance: Formerly from the collection of Jacaeber Kastor, Editor of The Art Of The Fillmore: The Poster Series 1966-1971, Thunder's Mouth Press, New York, 1999.

This is the first time that the card version of the BG-74 poster has ever been offered at public auction. Extremely rare is an understatement. This famous thick cardboard version of the BG-74 poster is an entirely different prospect than its paper cousin. In the words of renowned psychedelic poster expert Eric King, copies of the BG-74 "...are probably the rarest and most sought-after and expensive of the Bill Graham series". One such paper example sold for $23,750 at Heritage in July, 2018. However, there are a grand total of only three cardboard examples of the BG-74 known to the collecting community. So by the numbers this is far and away the rarest Fillmore poster to exist within the world famous series of "Bill Graham Presents" concert posters. Of the three known copies, this is certainly the finest example, and the only one that is CGC graded, at 9.4, no less!

NOTE: World-renowned poster expert Pete Howard has seen this poster and agrees it is one of the three only known copies. He believes this is one of the rarest Bill Graham posters. The CGC has graded this poster and tagged it with an error by calling it BG-74-OP-1. Howard agrees there was an error in the grading. CGC will change it to BG-74-OP-2 (which will be noted in the Eric King poster guide) before it is sent out to the winning bidder. The grading of 9.4 remains the same.
