    Description

Fats Domino 1957 "Blueberry Hill" Chicago Jumbo Concert Poster. An original advertising window card for Fats Domino, "Mr. Rock 'n' Roll Himself," playing in Chicago at the height of his popularity and influence, on Friday night, June 28, 1957. The graphics consist of red and brown ink on a white background, and a very sharp, high-quality photo of Mr. Domino smiling out at you.

This is a very rare and compelling 50's rock 'n' roll poster, especially since it plugs the most successful and famous song of Fats' long career, "Blueberry Hill." The year of 1957 began with that song in the national Top 10, and Fats would have four more Top 10 pop hits before the year was over. Joel Whitburn's authoritative Billboard magazine chart books statistically give 1957 as the biggest year of his career. And notice how the show's date is pretty much exactly in the middle of the year... six months down, six months to go. It just could hardly get any better.

Measures 22 1/8" x 28" and grades to a repaired Very Good Plus condition. COA from Heritage Auctions.

More Information: This was recently found in the small stash of Chicago posters printed back in the day and kept in clean storage all these decades. It's rare, unique and probably the only surviving example.

Condition details: This poster's a beauty and its eye appeal says "mint," but it's had a couple of issues very skillfully repaired that come to light only under close scrutiny. Once upon a time, four "X's" were scratched onto the poster's surface; not deep cuts, just surface scratches. They fell on the "N" in "Dance" and "I" in "Night"; the "FA" and "OM" of the singer's name; the "T" of "Trianon"; and the "JU" of "June." They were meticulously treated so they're all but gone now, unless the board is slanted at an angle to the light; only a very light single scuff mark over the brown "JU" remains.

There was also about a one-inch tear on the bottom center edge, up through the "A" in "Reservations"; it has been seamlessly fixed to again, make it all but disappear. Other than that, only the poster's upper right corner has a bump and a crease. Faint amount of grime or dirt on the white surface to the right of "10 P.M." and a mild brown spot to the left of "Conditioned."
