Elvis Presley Owned and Stage Worn Black Leather Boots (Verde, c. 1975). Charlie Hodge met Elvis when both were in the ARMY and stationed in Germany. The two became friends, and Charlie became one of Elvis' most trusted go-to guys. Hodge worked in Elvis' movies, sang backup with him on stage, and handed Elvis his famous scarves to give to adoring fans in the audience. Another specific responsibility was to rub down these gorgeous black leather boots with vaseline to give them a glossy sheen. Charlie said, "Elvis liked the way it made them look." In a letter of provenance, included here, dated July 12, 1996, Charlie also mentions, "These black leather boots made by Verde was one of Elvis' favorite kinds of boots. He had some Ramos and Florsheim but Verde were his favorite." Another of Elvis' inner circle, Richard Davis, has provided an Affidavit of Authenticity verifying that Elvis gave the boots to Hodge in the mid-1970s.
