Description

Star-Club Archive of Artist Documents, Including The Beatles, Brian Epstein and Others (Germany, 1960s). The Star-Club set out to be the top live music club in Hamburg when Manfred Weissleder opened its doors in April 1962 (the Beatles specifically booked as the opening headliners), and the venue focused on booking the very best talent until it closed at the end of 1969. Here is a nice assortment of documents and ephemera which center on the artists and performances staged by the Star-Club. Leading off is a bill sent to Weissleder on December 27, 1962 from the Hotel Pacific for a Christmas party held at the hotel during the Beatles' final appearances at the club, a party which the Beatles and Weissleder attended. The bill shows dinner was served and plenty of wine flowed, totaling nearly 800 German marks (about $1600 today). The Beatles names are also on three other documents from 1962 and 1966 (the year of the Blitztournee). Other artists named in the documents include Bill Haley, Little Richard, Jerry Lee Lewis, The Everly Brothers, Johnnie Kidd, Cliff Bennett, Brenda Lee, Davy Jones, The Dakotas, The Undertakers, Fats Domino, and many more. Includes a receipt for a telegram sent to Brian Epstein in Liverpool in May 1962, a letter to Weissleder that same year from a Don Arden agent who was scouting talent for for the club throughout England and asks if "Horst (Fascher) may be able to travel with me", air travel receipts for the Rattles and the Liverbirds in 1964, a performance contract with Decca for an appearance by Twinkle in 1967, a blank Star-Club performance contract, a rare 1962 Star-Club ticket stub, and more. Over two dozen individual documents, most in Very Good or better condition. From the Uwe Blaschke Beatles Collection.
