Beatles - The Original Polydor Records Recording Plan For the Bert Kaempfert LP Wunderland bei Nacht, Signed by Kaempfert (Germany, 1960). Originally released as a single in Germany in 1959, the instrumental "Wunderland bei Nacht" ("Wonderland By Night") initially failed to make a huge impression on the German charts. When it was released in the US by Decca in 1960, however, it became a smash, going to number one and selling over a million copies. The success led to the recording of a full length LP of the same name. Here is the original document, in Bert Kaempfert's hand, detailing the recording of that album.

Bert Kaempfert has filled out the Plan in blue ink, listing himself by name as Arranger, Conductor, and Licensing Manager. He has also signed off at the bottom as Producer. The plan is for the recording of ten songs for the Wonderland By Night LP, which are typewritten by title, with Kaempfert's notations in ink by several selections. The title track and its flip side had already been recorded and released as a single, and therefore are not on the plan.

The Recording Plan (Aufnahme-Planung) would have been placed on file for approval within Polydor, and provided details of the recording session. The Plan itself is not dated, but it does note the Place and Time of the Recordings (Ort und Zeit der Aufnahmen) - the 28th and 31st of October, from 10am to 5pm, at the in the grand hall (grosser saal) at the Musikhalle, Hamburg (now known as Laeiszhalle). Estimated production costs (Vorraussichtliche Produktinskosten) of 9500 DM are listed. Apparently this was all met well within Polydor, as approval (genemigt) has been granted by the signature lower left.

On tan A4 sized paper with the Polydor logo top left, two punch holes at left, one with a bit of loss surrounding not affecting the text. There is edgewear, primarily at top and right, and a .75" tear to the right of the typed song titles. The paper exhibits fold lines at center, both horizontally and vertically, but is in overall Very Good condition, all Kaempfert notations still bold. Also included is a vintage copy of the German 45 picture sleeve (no disc) for Wunderland bei Nacht . The 45 LP sleeve has minor tears to the top edge and W.V is written in blue in across the 'n' and the 'd' in wunderland. Good condition. From The Uwe Blaschke Beatles Collection.
