Description

    Jimi Hendrix Black Velvet Jacket (Circa 1969). Peaked lapels, two button front closure, two front flap pockets, vent in back, lined in black satin, (original designer label now removed); formerly from the collection of Matthew "Mike" Quashie, the well-known 1960s 'Limbo King' performer from Trinidad who befriended Hendrix and who let the musician crash at his apartment in Greenwich Village where Hendrix left many of his possessions shortly before his last trip to London including this jacket; included is a 1997 notarized LOA signed by Mike Quashie about this jacket and a copy of a New York Times newspaper article about him.

    PROVENANCE:
    This jacket was originally sold in the Christie's East (New York) auction titled "Pop Memorabilia," Sale 8113, February 4, 1998, Lot 149, final price realized was $4,600; further included are two copies of newspaper articles about this auction.

    EXHIBITS:
    On display at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio from 1998 to 2000; further included is a copy of a letter from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame regarding this loan.
