Description
Elvis Presley Personally-Owned and Worn Jacket by Sy Devore (1960s). A fabulous dark red and black patterned narrow-lapel single-breasted jacket with two-button front and sleeves. The label on the inside pocket reads: "Sy Devore, The Sands, Hollywood Las Vegas". This jacket was sometimes worn by Elvis (along with a red and black brocade vest) while he was in Vegas relaxing and catching the shows. One night, a bellboy that was friendly with Elvis remarked that he sure looked sharp in this jacket and that vest. When Presley returned later that night, he took the jacket off and handed it to the bellboy (but not the vest). That was just the way Elvis was- a very generous person. Fine condition. Included with the jacket is a color photo of Elvis wearing this jacket as well as a photo of Elvis with Sy Devore.Sy Devore was known as the "Tailor to the Stars." He moved to Hollywood from New York in 1944 to open a shop on Vine Street. It wasn't long before he got his nickname by outfitting some of the biggest names in the music and movie worlds, including: Ella Fitzgerald, Count Basie, the Dorsey Brothers, James Darren, Jerry Lewis, Nat King Cole, Bing Crosby, Eddie Fisher, Marilyn Monroe, Marlon Brando, Frank Sinatra and the Rat Pack, Elvis Presley, and Bob Hope. Kidding about his prices, Hope once said, "In a very good year, I have my choice between a Rolls-Royce, a new house in Beverly Hills or a suit from Sy Devore." Sy passed away in 1967 though his business lives on.
